The most efficient way to create wall niches in Revit is to do the niche as a loadable family which obviously needs to be flexible. Let's start by creating a family with the Generic model wall-based template.
As seen in the following image, go to the placement (front) elevation and sketch the reference planes which will act as the niche's flexible skeleton:

COMO HACER NICHOS EN MUROS EN REVIT
La forma mas eficiente de hacer nichos en Revit es crear el nicho como una familia de tipo componente, obviamente flexible en cuanto a sus dimensiones. Empecemos por crear la familia con la plantilla de modelo genérico basada en muro (Generic model wall-based).
Como se puede ver en la siguiente imagen, se abre el alzado frontal y se trazan los planos de referencia que serán el esqueleto del nicho flexible:

REVIT SPLIT TOOL - DELETE INNER SEGMENT
Never before had I seen this magnificent option!! When the SPLIT tool is activated you will see in the options bar "Delete Inner Segment":
If checked, this is what happens in just 2 clicks:
